M9.22 - A Beretta Enthusiast's Perspective
Posted by Spectre on Jul 25th 2024
As a long-time admirer of Beretta firearms, particularly the M9 series, I was thrilled to get my hands on the M9 in .22lr. From the moment I picked it up, I could feel the familiar comfort and quality that Beretta is renowned for. While I haven't had the chance to fire it yet, my initial impressions are overwhelmingly positive, tinged with the enthusiasm that only a Beretta fan could fully appreciate. Let’s discuss some of the features I was excited to see in this firearm.
*Shameless plug, we have M855A1 for sale!*
The Look and Feel
The M9 in .22lr maintains the iconic design that has made the M9 series a favorite among firearm enthusiasts. The sleek, ergonomic lines and robust construction immediately evoke a sense of reliability and precision. The weight and balance are spot on, providing a reassuring heft without being cumbersome. It's clear that Beretta has paid meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that even this smaller caliber variant lives up to the M9 legacy.

The grip feels just right, offering a secure hold that instills confidence. The textured surface provides excellent traction, which is crucial for maintaining control during extended shooting sessions. The slide action is smooth and precise, further reinforcing the high-quality craftsmanship that Beretta fans have come to expect. As weird as it is to use the word “sexy” to describe a pistol, this is one of the few times I allow myself that indulgence.
Sights and Optics
One of the aspects that immediately stood out to me was the absence of rails for optics. While some might view this as a limitation, I see it as a testament to the M9's design philosophy. The fixed sights are clear and intuitive, making target acquisition straightforward and efficient. For a handgun like this, designed with simplicity and reliability in mind, the lack of optics is not a drawback but rather a feature that emphasizes its no-nonsense, practical nature.

In my experience, the fixed sights on Beretta handguns have always been more than adequate for accurate shooting. They are easy to align and provide a crisp sight picture, which is crucial for quick and precise shots. I have no doubt that the M9 in .22lr will continue this tradition of excellence.
Not Ideal for Concealed Carry
While the M9 in .22lr is a fantastic firearm in many respects, it's not my first choice for a concealed carry weapon. The full-sized frame, which is perfect for range practice, makes it bulky for everyday concealed carry. Its dimensions can make it challenging to conceal effectively without printing, especially under lighter clothing or in warmer climates. It’s also .22lr which many conceal carry enthusiasts deem inadequate for carry purposes.
Moreover, the weight, while providing excellent balance and stability for shooting, adds to the burden of carrying it concealed for extended periods. In a concealed carry scenario, lighter and more compact options often prove more practical and comfortable. Although I appreciate the M9 for its handling and reliability, I would opt for a more compact firearm, such as the Glock 43x, Beretta APX Compact, Sig P365 or other newer guns like the FN Reflex for daily concealed carry.
That being said, the M9 in .22lr still has its place in a comprehensive firearm collection. It's an excellent training tool that mimics the feel and handling of its larger caliber counterparts, making it a valuable asset for improving shooting skills without the added expense and recoil of higher caliber ammunition. For those times when concealment isn't a priority, the M9 shines with the quality and performance that Beretta is known for.
Biased Opinion: A Beretta Lover's Delight
I'll admit, my love for Beretta handguns may color my perspective, but I believe that this bias is well-founded. The M9 series has earned its reputation through decades of reliable performance and superb engineering. Holding the M9, I can't help but feel a sense of nostalgia and admiration. It embodies the qualities that have made Beretta a household name among firearm enthusiasts: reliability, precision, and timeless design.
For those who share my affinity for Beretta, the M9 in .22lr is sure to be a delightful addition to your collection. It's a perfect training tool, offering the same handling and feel as its larger caliber counterparts, but with the reduced recoil and cost associated with .22lr ammunition. It is a great plinking gun, and I am so happy I finally got my hands on one.
